The modern-day Abyssinian has been carefully developed to attain the most spectacular color, pattern and type. It has a moderately long body, lithe, graceful and regal in appearance with well-developed musculature that is not coarse. A slender, finely boned cat, the tail is long and tapering. The front legs are slightly longer than the back ones, and the feet are small and oval. Most importantly, an Abyssinian must be balanced in proportion. Males are proportionately larger than the females who are more finely boned.

The Abyssinian’s head is shaped like a modified, slightly rounded wedge without flat plans. It should be well developed, with a rounded chin, neither receding nor protruding. Large, almond-shaped, expressive eyes intensified by gold, green or amber color, with pencil markings under the lower lids give the Abyssinian their dazzling appearance. It’s large, alert ears are moderately slightly pointed, broad and cupped at the base creating the effect that the Abyssinian is always listening and attentive to everything around it.
